Staging your Limbic System for Success
I believe in vision boards. I create one for my personal and professional life each January. We turn on our creative right brain with color and pictures. So we need to set the stage for success by placing inspirational images in front of our eyes to keep our right brain engaged while the left brain does the tedious but necessary day to day work.
This concept is similar to staging a home for potential buyers to visualize and imagine life in that space. We use color in our staging, along with neutrals, to spark or light up the right brain. In previous blog posts, we talked about the difference between the right and left brain when it comes to selling success. The right brain is the part of the brain that controls spending money.
That same principle applies to feeling motivated and energized to spark action and fuel our passion. A vision board is a creative and beautiful way to put images in front of your eyes on a daily basis, motivating us to make time for the most important things.
For instance, if you want to get physically fit, a colorful picture of a physical activity. If you wish to travel more, look for images in the areas that you would love to visit. If you wish to meet powerful people, put their picture on your board. I met Marcus Lemonis when he renovated my son's house for an HGTV pilot series called the Renovator. If you are hoping to speak more often, have a picture of someone doing a TED talk, for instance. That is one of my personal goals for my business life.
Use a half sheet of black foam core. You can find it at Michael’s craft store. The framing department can cut it to the perfect size. My images come from magazines and trade journals.
