BAD NEWS - TIME FLIES; GOOD NEWS - YOU'RE THE PILOT

Listen to this true story...

A number of years ago, I stepped up to the front door of a new client who lived in a big, expensive house at the beach. When she opened the front door, I was in shock!! It was a disaster inside. I thought she had forgotten the appointment! "Are you spring cleaning?" I asked, hoping to give her an excuse for the chaos. "No, I am not." Hmmm, I though as we walked around and she showed me the house.

There were toys everywhere and no beds were made; cereal boxes lined the countertops in a stunning, modern kitchen. I was there to help, accessorize, pick out a paint color and measure for a dining table.

She pulled out new some accessories, art, and lamps, hoping to put some pretty things into the family room. New furniture had arrived the week before. Things were everywhere. There was a stack of newspapers and magazines about 4 feet high. It was surreal!! I knew that hanging art and placing new things into a disorganized room would only add to the confusion.

This was a real-life, extreme example of what we sometimes do when we invest in a personal growth seminar or take a home staging class. We plan to put a shiny new "accessory" into our cluttered, chaotic life. It doesn't work!!

First, we have to declutter our lives before we add something new. Clutter can be things like watching too much TV, fear and anxiety, mismanaging money.

Renovations are costly and disruptive but the results are worth the mess and inconvenience. What is holding you back? ...

This is the first part of a small segment of our final day of class. It's my Mother Hen, Come to Jesus speech. Sometimes, there are tears. Confrontation and reality are part of radical change, for the good. Are you ready for an overhaul?

Here is the outline to understand where I am heading with this story. This will give you some food for thought. One last fact: People who write and monitor their goals on a daily basis will make 2 1/2 times more money. $40,000 or $120,000. Which do you prefer?
