2020 Projections on the Future of Staging

2020 Home Staging Projections

15 years ago, when I started as a home stager and wrote a regular guest column on staging for the Florida Times Union’s real estate page, I predicted that a time was coming when all or almost all of residential RE would be automatically staged. At that time, people thought that staging was a passing fad. Obviously, we now know that it is not a fad. It has become one of the fastest growing segments of the massive real estate industry.

At the Real Estate Staging Association convention in Las Vegas, I learned this staggering fact: in bigger cities on the west coast, particularly California, 60% of the RE is staged. That number will gradually spread to the rest of the country, much like design styles and color trends. West coast to East coast and everywhere in-between.

I am more informed about stagers in Florida, of course. As the RESA Florida State President, I stay in touch with our chapters and members.

In our local north Florida area, we have around 9 to 10,000 agents and about as many listings for sale. We have maybe 10 competitive stagers and perhaps 30 or so who are mainly designers, agents or organizers who stage as an added service. That number includes hobbists and part-timers. Some of these are trained and insured, some are not!

It difficult to calculate exact numbers but there is one thing of which we can be certain: There is more than enough business for everyone!!! As this industry stretches and grows out of its humble beginnings, it becomes a force of nature in the business world.

I just returned from Nashville, where I had a chance to speak on the main stage alongside such notables as Candace Olsen, Thom Felicia and Carson Kressley. One of my biggest takeaways:

I met numerous stagers pulling in more than a million dollars a year and one gentleman staging entrepreneur from Boston who brings in 6 million a year. Yes!! You heard that right. He is the 6 million dollar man.

In conclusion, there has never been a better time to begin a career in home staging. We have a spot available in out November 5-Day Class. 18th – 22nd. It’s $500 off the retail price. Give yourself a life-changing Christmas gift this year. Also, the online class is back on sale again. Are you ready?
